Abstract

This study examines the effect of work competence, workload, and work stress on the performance of village apparatus in Simo Sub-district, Boyolali Regency, both partially and simultaneously. The research is motivated by the shortage of human resources in village administration, which has resulted in overlapping duties, increased workload, competency challenges, and potential work stress affecting employee performance. This study employed a quantitative explanatory approach with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of 128 village apparatus, including Village Secretaries, Section Heads, and Division Heads from 13 villages in Simo Sub-district. Using total sampling, 107 completed questionnaires were analyzed through SPSS. The results show that work competence has a positive effect on performance, while work stress does not have a significant effect. Simultaneously, competence, workload, and work stress influence performance, with an Adjusted R-square value of 0.644, indicating that 64.4% of performance variation is explained by these factors, while 35.6% is influenced by other variables. These findings reinforce Performance Theory, emphasizing the interaction between individual ability, job demands, and psychological conditions in determining work performance.
